Arizona Auto Insurance

Required Arizona Auto Insurance - Arizona auto insurance laws requires you to possess Bodily Injury liability and Property Damage liability policies. Insurance must be obtained after registration and before using your automobile.

Minimum Coverage - 15/30/10. Arizona law requires that the minimum limits of auto insurance liability coverage is, $15,000 for injury liability for one person in an accident, $30,000 for all injuries in any single accident, and $10,000 for property damage in an accident.

Proof of Insurance - You are required to carry proof of your liability insurance policy in your vehicle. What is considered to be the best proof of liability insurance is your insurance card, which is issued by your insurance company.

Penalty for Non-Compliance The penalty for not possessing the required insurance, first offense, is only a $250 fine, which relative to the rest of the country is considered lenient. However, continued offenses to maintain proper insurance could lead to the suspension of your vehicle registration and/or driver license.

If you need to reinstate these privileges, you must pay fees and file a future proof of financial responsibility with the Motor Vehicle Department. This is most commonly an SR22 form from an insurance company.

In addition to being expensive, the owner must carry the SR22 for three years from date of suspension.

Tort Liability - in Arizona is based on the standard tort liability system where parties can sue for liability damages. In Arizona, there are no restrictions on lawsuits

Seatbelt Requirement - Although you cannot be pulled over for seatbelt non-compliance, if you are pulled over due to another traffic infraction, the penalty for any seat in non-compliance is a $10 fine. Also, if you get into an accident, damage mitigation will be taken into consideration if either party is injured and was not wearing seatbelts during the accident.
